Junior Coaching

Junior Assistant Volunteer  (JAV) is a volunteer position responsible for assisting the coaching staff with practice and meet day functions of the swim team. The goal of the JAV program is to ensure more individualized attention to every Splash swimmer, as well as develop leadership skills for JAV participants. JAVs will report directly to the Swim Coaches as well as the JAV Coaching Coordinator.

Please note, due to the overwhelming interest in our JAV program, Tiger Splash may implement a limit to the number of JAVs for the team.

Minimum Requirements:
Siblings, high school swimmers and Tiger Splash swimmers at least 13 years old are welcome to participate. Returning Tiger Splash swimmers at least 12 years old are eligible to participate. Candidates must have competitive swimming experience; strong communications and organizational skills; interest and ability to work with children and swimmers of various abilities. 

New JAV coaches are asked to volunteer 10 hours and returning/veteran JAVs are asked to volunteer 20 hours during the season.

Position Summary: Be Present, Positive, Committed

Provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants under the direction of the head and assistant coach. Experienced and returning JAVs may have more senior leadership roles.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist Swim Coaches in implementing age-appropriate workouts focused on technique, stroke development and endurance.
  2. Know the governing rules for each age group.
  3. Be prepared to provide in water instruction and demonstration.
  4. Be attentive and alert at all times while on the pool deck.
  5. Assist Swim Coaches with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet arrangements and team performance.
  6. Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc.
  7. Help maintain a clean and safe environment for swim team participants.
  8. In difficult situations, refer swimmer or parents to the head coach to resolve conflicts. Do not attempt to rectify or solve the issue.

Service Hours: Junior Coaches may earn community service hours for participating in this program. UIL rules prohibit UIL swimmers from receiving monetary compensation or merchandise for coaching swimming.

JAV Scholarship

The Dripping Springs Tiger Splash Swim Team believes the JAV program is an integral part of our team’s success. To honor the commitment and recognize the contributions of our JAVs, we offer a limited number of scholarships valued at a minimum of $1000. Applicants must be graduating seniors that have participated in the JAV program for a minimum of two years with a minimum of 10 hours volunteered per season. 

The applicant must answer all questions thoroughly. Two letters of recommendation on the applicant’s behalf should be submitted with the application. We will accept letters of recommendation that may have been written for another scholarship opportunity or college acceptance.
